YCE deplores insecurity, works towards Igboho’s release

The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has called on the Federal Government to address the worsening state of insecurity in the country.

The council said it was unfortunate that insecurity under the current administration has taken a worsening dimension, which appears to have defied all solutions.

Secretary, Oyo-Ekiti State Chapter, Ayo Ajibulu, while presenting a communique after a general meeting held in Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State, yesterday, said the council was concerned and deeply worried over the present situation where citizens would not be able to go about their normal businesses, saying: “This is completely unacceptable and should not continue.”

The council also condemned the menace of armed herdsmen, banditry and kidnappers, urging the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, contain the development with the view to sanitising the society.

The council, which insists that the 1999 Constitution is a quasi-dictatorial document imposed on Nigerians and one responsible for most of the current challenges, urged the Federal Government to do the needful by accommodating true federalism and a new constitution.

MEANWHILE, Secretary General of the council, Dr. Kunle Olajide, has said that the organisation is doing everything possible to ensure the freedom of Yoruba self-determination fighter, Mr. Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, who is currently being detained in Republic of Benin.

He said Nigerian youths were tired of the situation in the country and that they could no longer tolerate it, hence their reactions.

“We cannot stop them because the country is wasting the youths. Our advice is that they should moderate their actions because the power of the Federal Government is enormous,” he said.
