Yobe Police bust drug warehouse, arrest suspect with illicit drugs

The Yobe State Police command, has busted a drug warehouse with the arrest of a 35-year-old man in Danchuwa community of Potiskum Local Government Area of the state.

The command said the suspect identified as Alhaji Abbas was arrested in possession of large quantities of illicit drugs in the warehouse.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim disclosed: “The command has recorded another significant breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking, substance abuse, and other violent crimes with the arrest of a suspected drug baron and a notorious kidnapping kingpin operating within and outside the State.”

The SP further revealed: “On 17 July 2026, at about 1450hrs, operatives of the Yindiski Divisional Police Headquarters, Potiskum, acting on credible intelligence, conducted a coordinated sting operation on a suspected drug warehouse belonging to one Alhaji Abbas (35) of Danchuwa Village, Potiskum Local Government Area.”

He explained that during the operation, the suspect was arrested and a large quantity of assorted illicit drugs was recovered, including cartons of Tramadol, Exzol tablets and other hard drugs.

Other illicit drugs recovered were eight cartons of assorted illicit drugs, one and a half Ghana-Must-Go bags containing Tramadol and Exzol tablets, and the sum of ₦835,500, suspected to be the proceeds from the illicit drug trade.

He added that the operation was, however, met with violent resistance from other members of the criminal syndicate, who attacked the operatives in an attempt to rescue the suspect. The police, however, repelled the attack with professionalism and resilience.

Beyond the arrest of the drug baron, Abdulkarim said: “A few of our personnel sustained minor injuries, while a police vehicle was damaged.

“The injured officers have been evacuated to hospital and are responding to treatment. Investigation is ongoing, and the arrested suspect is assisting the police with useful information aimed at apprehending the fleeing members of the syndicate.”

In a separate operation, operatives attached to the Potiskum Area Command on 15 July 2026 arrested one Saidu Mohammed (40) of Jalam Village, Bauchi State, a suspected kidnapping kingpin and armed robbery suspect who has long been on the Command’s watchlist.

The arrest followed a complaint received on 11 July 2026 from a victim who reported that he had received a threatening telephone call on 10 July 2026 at about 2151hrs from phone number 09079401479, demanding the sum of Ten Million Naira (₦10,000,000.00) and ordering him to relocate or risk being killed.

Upon receipt of the complaint, detectives immediately commenced a technically driven, intelligence-led investigation, which resulted in the swift arrest of the suspect. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly operated across Bauchi, Yobe and Gombe States. Further investigation is ongoing to arrest other members of the criminal syndicate and bring them to justice.

The Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, lauded the personnels’ gallantry, while reaffirming the command’s commitment in combating drug trafficking, and ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Yobe state.
