Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has begun deployment of 1,880 prepaid meters to its Band A customers. The exercise falls under the Meter Asset Financing (MAF) Scheme, designed for the affected customers who have yet to receive electricity subsidies since April.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) approved N21 billion under Tranche A of the scheme, aimed to bridge the metering gap for Band A customers without any cost, ensuring more accurate billing and reducing the widespread issue of estimated billing.

YEDC received N243,349,639 out of the N21 billion to execute the process. The DisCo, in a statement by its Communications Officer, Blessing Tunoh, yesterday, said the allocation comprises 1,500 single-phase meters and 380 three-phase meters.

IN a similar vein, the Cross River government has hinted at generating about 120MW from combined sources to ensure a steady and reliable power supply across the state. The Commissioner for Power, Eka Wiliams, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Calabar, yesterday.

He listed the sources of energy as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), hydro, windmills, biomass, and solar, adding that the target would be realised within one to two years.

Williams said the state already had two power plants with a combined installed capacity of 49MW. He stated that the government had concessioned the plant at Tinapa, with an installed capacity of 26MW. Williams added that the government was finalising discussions with an investor to take over the other plant (23MW) at the Parliamentary area of Calabar.
