Yoruba group congratulates Tinubu, urges aggrieved leaders to sheath sword
A Yoruba group, Congress for the Rights of Yoruba Nationalities (CROYN), has congratulated Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory in the recently conducted presidential election, lauding him for his dogged resilience and perseverance with which he scaled all the hurdles planted on his way during his party’s primaries, campaigns and the election proper. “He fought a good fight and won the race,” the body said.
CROYN, in a statement, by its President, Abiodun Fanoro, and the General Secretary, Tunde Ayenumelo, at the end of its executive meeting in Akure, Ondo State, commended the two runners-up, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) for putting up a good and keen fight, which also helped to lend credence to the election. It maintained that the process was not a walkover, but a clear reflection of the true strength of the contestants and their parties.
The group commended all the contestants in the election, especially the runners-up, including Alhaji Rabiu Kwakwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party for abiding by the peace accord signed to keep the peace even after the election, which they have manifested by ensuring that there was no breakdown of law and order after the election, admonishing them to avoid making inciting comments as they wait on the judiciary.
In the statement, the group said, “In this regard, we wish to laud the Omoluwabi role and sacrifices of some eminent Yoruba sons and daughters towards the actualisation of this dream.
CROYN also noted with appreciation the resolute determination by the 14 northern governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who demonstrated an unwavering commitment to power shift to the south right from the APC’s primaries to when the election was conducted, delivered accordingly even at the expense of their political fortunes and future.
The group also singled out for commendation, the stunning “contribution of the majority of the revolutionary G-5 Integrity group, from the main opposition PDP, majority of who worked assiduously to deliver their states to Tinubu.”
“We appeal to Yoruba leaders like Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, and Chief Bode George with legendary opposition to Tinubu to sheath their sword, more so that regardless of their opposition, God and the people of Nigeria have proclaimed him as preferred President.”
