A 24-year-old youth, identified as Saliu Ladayo, was yesterday nabbed by the Ondo State police command for allegedly murdering his girlfriend, Confidence Nwama, at Oshinle Quarters in Akure, after calling him lazy.

The Guardian learnt that the late Nwama, a 19-year-old lass, who was writing her Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, was stabbed to death by the suspect. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed that the suspect was already in the police custody, adding that investigation into the matter has begun.

Joseph, however, added that “the suspect confessed that he stabbed his girlfriend because she cursed him that he will not make it in life and he had not made it; and also that things had not been going well for him and this infuriated him to take a knife and stab her.

“Like I said, we have arrested him and he will be charged to court after the investigation may have been concluded,” he said.Meanwhile, a source revealed that Ladayo and the deceased had incessant disagreement as the former reportedly complained that his lover used to abuse him and ridicule him, labeling him a lazy youth with misfortunes.

According to her, “both of them were in the house on the fateful day when an argument ensued between them and the argument led to a fight, which led the man to take a knife and stab the girl on her chest and other parts of her body.”

She added that people in the neighbourhood promptly rushed into the house when they heard the cry of the deceased, who was found in a pool of her own blood, gasping for survival. The Guardian gathered that all efforts to save her life proved abortive as she reportedly gave up the ghost on her way to the hospital in the metropolis.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State police command has arrested two suspects for the gruesome murder of a middle-aged man, Happy Patrick, who was on Tuesday killed at Imodi-Imosan community of the state. The suspects, 35-year-old Patrick Udom from Akwa Ibom State and James Roland, 25-year-old from Delta State, were apprehended following a complaint lodged by the elder brother of the victim, Moses Utuede, who reported the incident at Obanlende Divisional headquarter.

In a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, Utuede claimed his brother left home on Tuesday, May 15, at about 7:00a.m., but didn’t return with his motorcycle.

On the strength of the report, the Divisional Police Officer of the station, SP Jaiye Richard detailed detectives to embark on a full-scale investigation in order to unravel the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of the victim.

“Investigation later revealed that the victim was last seen with Patrick Udom and he was promptly arrested. After a thorough investigation, Udom confessed to have killed the victim with the help of Roland James. He stated further that the victim who lives in the same community of Imodi-Imosan with them was killed because they wanted to steal his motorcycle, which they actually did after killing their victim.

“The body of the deceased, which was concealed in a sack and thrown in a nearby bush has been recovered. Also recovered from them are the two cutlasses used to kill the deceased, one hammer and a digger,” he said.

Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, Cp Ahmed Iliysasu, has ordered that the case be transferred to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence for discrete investigation and prosecution of the suspects.
