Irate youths, who were protesting against incessant attacks by bandits on their community yesterday set the house of Secretary to the Katsina State Government (SSG), Mustapha Inuwa in Danmusa Council Area of the state on fire.

They also set ablaze two offices of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and vandalised another, three of which were located in the council area.

The Guardian learned that the youths had been planning the protest over the issue for some time now, but had been persuaded by prominent persons in the area not to engage in the protests.

But Tuesday’s attack on the community by bandits proved to be the last straw that broke the camel’s back, resulting in the demonstrations in which one person was killed.

Speaking on the attack, a resident of the community said the bandits had “ambushed and attacked our traders who were returning from the market on
Tuesday evening.

The youths had to mobilise and repelled the attack, but the bandits killed a motorcyclist and retreated into the forest.

“The protesters took the corpse of the victim to the district head who fled his palace on sighting the mob.

“From there, they marched to the APC office in Danmusa and burnt it, chanting various slogans to register their dissatisfaction over the level of insecurity in the area,” he said.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state command, Gambo Isah confirmed the incident in a statement saying: “On September 3, 2019 about 2200hrs, two men armed with daggers were reported to have snatched a motorcycle at Gurzau village in Danmusa Council of Katsina State.

“Vigilante men on duty were alerted and pursued the hoodlums on motorbikes but the bandits escaped and abandoned the stolen motorcycle, but some miscreants took to the streets and started burning tyres.

Meanwhile, the Ebonyi State chapter of the People Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday said since President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to secure the lives and property of Nigerians, he should resign honorably, insisting that they would treat him as true statesman if he did so.

This followed escalating insecurity, herdsmen killings and attack on the residence of Chairman of the Southeast Governor’s Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi.

Speaking with Journalists in Abakaliki, Youth Leader of the party in Ebonyi Elder Sam Over, also condemned the raid on the Abuja residence of Governor Umahi by policemen in the nation’s capital saying, Nigerians were no longer safe.

Sam urged the police to disclose the reason for the invasion of Umahi’s residence to avail Nigerians the motive behind the raid.
