Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom

Benue youths have blocked the State’s Governor Samuel Ortom, from going for All progressive party meeting in Abuja.

The youths marched to the Government House in the early hours of Wednesday to prevent the governor from attending a meeting with the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole and some other party members

“If the governor insists on travelling to Abuja for the APC meeting, he will risk losing the support of the people,” said the youths leader, Dave Ogbole

The governor had earlier debunk media report that said he had plans to dump APC in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Terver Akase.

Akase described the report as false, misleading and handiwork of detractors playing politics with the blood of the people.

“We read a report in a national daily of today which named Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom as one of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders planning to defect to another political party,” Akase said.

“The report which is obviously sponsored is not only false but also misleading. Ortom has no intention to leave APC for another party and has not consulted anyone on the matter,” he added.

But the youths said they wanted him to resign from the ruling party. They dared Ortom’s convoy to crush them and embark on his trip while insisting that the governor should resign his membership from the APC

Ortom eventually succumbed to their protest by making a U-turn back to the government house.
