Yuletide: Police reiterate ban on fireworks in Enugu
The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has reiterated the ban on the sale and unauthorised use of fireworks, commonly known as knockouts, bangers, or crackers, during this festive season.
He also called on parents and guardians to discourage their children and wards from purchasing or using fireworks,
This was made known in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe.
According to Ndukwe, the prohibition is designed to prevent criminals from exploiting fireworks to commit crimes, reduce public panic, and mitigate risks to lives and property.
He said CP Kanayo also warned businesses and individuals engaged in the sale and use of fireworks to desist immediately, emphasising that violators will face the full weight of the law.
On indiscriminate bush burning during this harmattan season, Ndukwe said CP Kanayo underlined the legal consequences of such, adding that it could lead to fire outbreaks, which could endanger lives, destroy property, and disrupt the social and economic well-being of the community.
He said CP Kanayo urged residents of Enugu State to remain law-abiding and vigilant, avoiding actions that could jeopardise their safety and security during the yuletide and beyond.
