The governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has denied a report that claims he declared 9 trillion naira in cash, investment and property assets.

Lawal, who was sworn in on Monday, May 29th spoke on Thursday during an interview with the Radio France International (RFI) Hausa.

According to Lawal, the people of Zamfara State will not be facing so many challenges and hardship if he had N9 trillion.

The governor added that he would have used such a huge amount of money to help the development of the state.

“I hope so and I pray that God gives me that kind of money. May God bless me with that kind of money to help my people,” he said.

“If I have that kind of money, all the challenges my people are battling, I would have used the money to solve the problems.”

He said the claim is an allegation by people looking to cause mischief for the new government and added that his assets are available for those who wish to verify.

“This is nothing but an allegation perpetrated by mischief makers, those who want to drag my name in the mud,” Lawal said.

“However, I thank God, for this money they are alleging that I declared, I pray to God to give me such an amount of money so I can use it to help my people.”

Lawal, a banker, was elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 Nigerian gubernatorial elections, after defeating the former governor, Bello Matawalle of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
