Zamfara lawmaker killed after welcoming Governor Matawalle to APC

Bandits have killed the member representing Shinkafi constituency in the Zamfara State House of Assembly Muhammad Ahmad.

Ahmad was killed on Tuesday night on his way to Kano after attending a rally to welcome Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State and members of the State House of Assembly to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Matawalle announced his defection to APC in Gusau on Tuesday at a special grand rally to receive him to the party, organised by the National Caretaker Committee of the APC led by Gov. Maimala Buni of Yobe.

“As from today, I Bello Matawallen Maradun, governor of Zamfara, I am happy to announce my defection from the PDP to the APC,” Matawalle said.

“As of today, I am a full APC member and leader of APC in Zamfara.

“I am calling on all APC stakeholders in the state to join hands with me to build the party and move the state forward.”

Eleven APC governors, ministers, senators, House of Reps members, state government officials and Ahmad and other lawmakers of the Zamfara State House of Assembly attended the occasion.

Spokesperson of the Zamfara State House of Assembly Mustapha Jafaru has confirmed Ahmad’s death.

He noted that the late lawmaker will be buried on Wednesday morning in line with Islamic tradition.

Until his death, Ahmad was the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Budget.
