Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno state; has directed immediate payments of workers’ salaries and pension to beat rising market prices at end of Ramadan fast.

According to him, early payments of May salaries and pension will enable workers and pensioners prepare for the Id el Fitr celebration, slated for the weekend.

Chairman of Borno state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Bulama Abiso in a statement Saturday disclosed: “Even though the Ramadan fast is just half way, early payments of salaries and pension was to prevent rushes in preparations for Sallah celebration,” warning that it could expose workers to market price rises for food and drinks, clothes and other basic materials to mark Id el Fitr.

While thanking the Governor for immediate payments, he said: “The NLC in Borno State is happy with Governor Zulum’s tradition of consistency in payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities of retired workers.”

“Workers are also happy with the Governor’s compassionate approvals for early release of salaries in the middle of December ahead of last Christmas, in the middle of April ahead of Ramadan and now at the middle of May ahead of Sallah.

According to him, all these indicated Zulum’s high degree of respect for workers and compassion for retirees.

He therefore, urged workers to rededicate themselves to lawful duties
in the best interest of the public.
