Zulum resettles 2,500 IDPs, disburses N120m

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has resettled 2,500 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to Kirawa, a border community with Cameroun, and disbursed N120 million to them.

Boko Haram had been attacking Kirawa, a farming and herding community in Gwoza Local Council, forcing many to take refuge in IDPs camps for seven years in Maiduguri and Minoa camp in Cameroun.

Disbursing the stipends, on Saturday, in Kirawa, the governor disclosed that each father received N100,000 and their wives N20,000 each.

According to him, the Saleh Vungas-led resettlement committee would ensure completion of houses for safe return of IDPs to Kirawa in a voluntarily dignified manner.

He added that with the resettlement of Kirawa IDPs, over 10 communities were returned for resettlements, including Ajiri, Auno, Ngoshe and Kauwuri in Konduga and Jere local councils.

Besides, Zulum said each of the 2,500 persons got a food bag comprising rice and maize, while the female returnees were each provided with a wrapper.

Abacha Buba, representing Gwoza constituency at the House of Assembly; former Commissioner for Agriculture, Bukar Talba and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation assisted the governor in resettling the IDPs in Kirawa.
