A chance for renewal in Kebbi State
SIR: Kebbi Sate is lagging far behind in terms of development. The former administration under the leadership of Saidu Usman Dakingari has not done enough to improve the standard of living of the citizenry in the state, most especially the Kebbi South part of the state. The people of Zuru, who constituted Kebbi South have not been adequately represented and presented, both at the state and the federal levels for that reason, the dividends of democracy are scarce in Kebbi South.
I was disappointed when I visited Dabai District in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State recently because of the dearth of good roads, electricity supply, hospitals, schools and other things that would have contributed to the progress of the citizenry in that part of the state, if present. One can see lack of development in other parts of Kebbi State, but it is poorer in Kebbi South.
I wonder what the former governor Dakingari has been doing for eight years in office. What I saw during my recent visit in Kebbi State, words only can’t describe and communicate the decay situation in the state, properly.
Therefore, let me call on the governor Atiku Bagudu, not to disappoint the people of the state but rather render a selfless service that can provide value to his people thereby improving their standard of living. Also, the governor should remember to engage the people of Kebbi South in his administration by giving their sons and daughters positions, under his administration and recommending them for the federal slots unlike the former administration that abandoned, neglected and dejected them.
The Deputy Governor Col. Samaila Yombe, who is from Kebbi South, should know that the unfairness exhibited against his people necessitated his nomination in the first place. Therefore, he should get ready to make his people proud.

I served in that state!!! All Dakingari did was put “Dakingari 2 TERMS” BILLBOARDS all around the state. He was absent from most NYSC programmes and we learnt he always resided in Abuja -only to fly in through Sokoto whenever he felt like.
Mind you, the “Dakingari 2 TERMS” posters were in 2007 -not even mid of his 1st term!!!
We will review and take appropriate action.
