Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode

Sir: Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State should be celebrating his one year in office with his head high because he has a record of achievements. Those of us in the Ajah part of Lekki Peninsula are delighted that he has started a flyover at the Ajah Roundabout to ease traffic in the place now known as the New Lagos; traffic congestion here is the worst in the entire state. The governor is also about to start the construction of the Fourth Mainland Bridge connecting Mainland and Island, starting from Langbasa in Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

However, there is a more pressing problem in this area: it is fast turning into a slum, even though it is supposed to be a place for the middle class and upper middle class. All manner of shacks are springing up on the Ajah-Badore Road, the only part of Lagos where environmental rules are brazenly flouted because the area is off the monitoring screen of the authorities due to its hidden location.

There are several potholes on the same road, which cause enormous traffic congestion up to the Ajah-Epe Road. To worsen matters, sweeping of the Ajah-Badore Road has practically been abandoned and refuse is discharged mindlessly on the road by residents. In addition, many of the street light poles here have collapsed. Finally, the Catholic Mission Road which leads to the famous Badore Jetty has for years been in a shambles.

As an action governor in the lineage of Lateef Jakande, Bola Tinubu and Babatunde Fashola, we trust Ambode to address the concerns stated above immediately. Let him address these issues as his one year anniversary gift to the people and organisations in this axis of Lagos.
Kayode Berkley,
Badore Ajah, Lekki.
