Trump: Catastrophe of lying prophets

Sir: God’s guidance rarely comes through spectacular means. Whenever in our quest for God’s guidance we lose theological control, erratic superstitions take us over. Those who look for guidance through a prophecy, inner voice, “fleece,” or random selection of presidential candidates or Bible verses are clearly under the spell of this misconception.

Many prophets from Nigeria and other African countries prophesied that the America Democratic Presidential candidate, Kamala Harris will be the one to be the next president of America. But it was the Lord doing; it was marvelous in our sight that President-elect Donald Trump emerged triumphantly. He was shot three times; faced charges and called all sorts of names. But the Lord found him worthy to be president of the United States of America.

Most prophets had spoken presumably for this election of America. They refused to keep classified information to themselves. They forgot that prophetic may be proposal that may subject to change. One may be faithful in reporting what he or she hears. Many prophets embrace the romantic fancy that all true guidance experiences can be reported in terms of the formula, “The Lord told me”, “The Lord said” thus and so on; in other words, that they are all experiences producing absolute confidence about the rightness of one specific line of action.

A dream or a vision not necessary comes from God. God watched over the words of Samuel that his words come to pass. Be a true witness of what you see; just say it as it is and not God said. Tell your dreams and not thus say the Lord. It is catastrophe for the prophets that tell lies. Say what you see and not attributed it to the name of the Lord; say what you hear and not upgrade it to “thus say the Lord”, because it is subject to change. Don’t prophecise what somebody said that is not your own; if what the person said is a lie and you become a liar. The Holy Spirit is more up to date than tomorrow’s newspaper.

All of us were raised wearing a virtual reality headset of one kind or another – it’s our original worldview. But it’s crucial to understand that these headsets give us a distorted view of reality. Without even realising it, we develop a way of looking at prophecy that we believe is true. But if your worldview is faulty; it will lead to faulty judgements about what happens in your life.

God doesn’t usually use a hotline from heaven to give us guidance. We must learn to distinguish between the ordinary and the extraordinary, the constant and the occasional, the rule and the exception. God may reveal himself and give guidance to his servants anyway He pleases, and it is not for us to set limits to Him. All the biblical narratives of God’s direct communications with men and women are on the face of it exceptional, and the biblical model of personal guidance is something quite different.

We should continue to pray for Trump. We should pray for him till January 20 next year, 2025 when he will be taking over office. It is not over until it is over! And when he is sworn in, it is still not over, we have to sustain him with prayer. We must sustain our leaders with prayers so that we can live a peaceful life. And when we support our leaders with prayers, we would have the desired peace we need.
