Mayowa Egunjobi, CITP: Leading trade finance in West Africa

Mayowa Egunjobi serves as the Vice President of Institutional Cash and Trade Finance for Financial Institutions at Deutsche Bank in West Africa.

In July 2024, she achieved her CITP®|FIBP® designation, solidifying her expertise and leadership in the field of global trade and finance.

Beginning her career in an educational agency role, Mayowa has advanced to overseeing strategic trade finance operations. In her current position at Deutsche Bank’s Lagos office, she provides guidance to financial institutions throughout West Africa and leads various initiatives. Her key responsibilities encompass portfolio revenue growth, compliance oversight—including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations—and regular engagement with regulatory bodies.

One notable achievement in Mayowa’s career involved facilitating a complex trade operation that spanned Liberia, the U.S., Nigeria, and China. She effectively structured guarantees through international trade instruments, aligning divestment deals with the needs of small businesses. Her adept deal structuring and coordination with banks ensured smooth payment transactions and fostered confidence among various stakeholders.

Mayowa emphasises the importance of relationship-building in effectively navigating the intricate trade regulations and market practices prevalent in the region.

She states, “Building those relationships helps trade experts quickly decipher the problems.”

Additionally, Mayowa plays a vital role in mentoring emerging professionals in the field.

Her CITP certification complements her Certified Trade Finance Professional (CTFP) qualification, which she obtained in 2020. It positions her as a trusted advisor in institutional finance and acts as a bridge between global trade entities and regional markets.
