SIR: I write with deep concern to shed light on the distressing state of the Ondo State Asphalt Company (OSAC) in Aponmu, a project funded by taxpayers’ money under a previous government. OSAC was envisioned to be a catalyst for road construction, rehabilitation, and job creation in Ondo State.
Regrettably, under the current administration led by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), OSAC has faced neglect and deterioration, adversely affecting not only the workforce but also the revenue generation from this vital industry. Thousands have lost their jobs, and the facility that was meant to be a beacon of progress now stands as a testament to abandonment.
It is crucial to emphasize that OSAC was established with taxpayers’ money, a resource intended for the betterment of Ondo State. The neglect of this project is not only a disservice to those who contributed to its inception but also a setback to the overall development of the state.
The ramifications of this abandonment are felt not just in terms of lost employment opportunities but also in the negative impact on revenue streams. OSAC was meant to be a significant contributor to the economy, and its present state reflects a failure to capitalise on the potential benefits it could offer.
I urge every concerned citizen to unite in raising awareness about the plight of OSAC and holding the Ondo State Government accountable for the responsible and transparent use of public funds. The citizens of Ondo State deserve clarity on why projects like OSAC, initiated with public funds, have been left to deteriorate.
Let us collectively demand answers, transparency, and a commitment to the revitalisation of projects like OSAC that hold the promise of economic growth, job creation, and overall prosperity for Ondo State.
