The lamentation of Bishop Kukah

Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah

Sir, This is Easter season when Jesus of Nazareth is weeping that the people called Christians have ritualized his own death as ransom for human sins, and buried the religio-political machinations that resulted in his own death on the cross.

Nevertheless, the focus of this letter is the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto diocese, Nigeria, the Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah, who is also weeping over the level of inhumanity visited on the common Nigerians in his diocese, with particular reference to crop farmers and their families. He laments that: “there are many villagers in my parish who cannot go to farm again except to farm their backyard because their farms have been forcefully annexed by their Fulani herdmen that in Bokkos (plateau state) a wife and a daughter can be taken away right before her husband or father and be repeatedly raped then released at the convenience of the barbaric Fulani tribesmen and no one dares talk, police will advise you to go and settle the matter through dialogue.” Moreover, “At the slightest excitement Hausa or Fulani man can kill you and get away with it, it has happened and continue to happen but when you gear up to defend yourself because security will not, then you are caught by the same security who will lecture you on how to be peaceful and law abiding.” And “Now how do I love a country where a murderous terrorist group like the herdsmen acclaimed even internationally as deadly is being openly defended by a government that wants my loyalty?”

Any Nigerian who hasn’t known that the President Muhammadu Buhari is pretentious may never be redeemed from ignorance, naivety, self-deception, fanaticism, or whatever the malady may be. Obviously, Oshiomhole is said to be preparing to sell Buhari to Nigerians in 2019, notwithstanding the carnage, genocide, and economic destruction of Nigeria. Christian and Islamic clerics position themselves in academic institutions to promote Christian and Islamic onslaughts on human unity, equity, and justice. While common Nigerians will keep paying the price till the end of their lives. I am not cursing but religio-politically keep strategizing on cowing and milking on the people.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is apologizing for unspecified past misdeeds to fool Nigerians back into another round of deception and misery. The All Progressives Congress (APC) doesn’t even bother to apologize for anything, hoping that once Bola Ahmed Tinubu supports Muhammadu Buhari he will scale through second term, notwithstanding carnage, genocide, and economic destruction of Nigeria.  The apologizing PDP is also thinking of picking its presidential candidate from the northwest a region described as born to rule. Are you not born to rule?
