1,000 Ganduje loyalists dump APC, return to NNPP
The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) suffered another political defeat over the weekend as more than 1,000 loyalists of the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, embraced the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).
The major political realignment into the Kwankwasiyya hegemony in Kano’s polity signals an unprecedented shift ahead of the local government elections slated for October 26, 2024.
The mass defections collapsed the APC structure in Tofa and Ghari local government areas, where the defectors officially renewed their loyalty to the spiritual leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The defectors were received separately during the occasion marking the flag-off of the NNPP campaign for the local government elections in the areas.
Welcoming the former loyalists of Ganduje to the NNPP, the state party Chairman, Dr. Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, commended their bold decision and promised them equal opportunity within the party.
The Party Chairman said the defections of APC members provided confidence and reassurance of the growing strength of the NNPP in Kano, particularly in the strongholds of the opposition party.
Dungurawa affirmed that the NNPP remains the only acceptable political party in Kano and assured members of overwhelming victory at the council polls.
He stressed that the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is resolute in meeting the social, economic, and infrastructural needs of Kano.
