Prof. Christopher Imumolen, the presidential candidate of the Accord Party, has withdrawn from the 2027 presidential election and declared his support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

 

 

 

Imumolen, who is also the National Chairman of the Accord Party, announced his decision in Lagos, saying the move followed consultations with the party’s leadership and was driven by what he described as the overriding need to prioritise Nigeria’s unity, stability and continued development over personal political ambition.

 

 

 

According to him, the decision was based on 10 key considerations, including what he described as a shared vision with President Tinubu on economic transformation, education, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, industrialisation and national development.

 

 

 

He said Tinubu had demonstrated resilience and strategic leadership in navigating Nigeria’s political and economic challenges, adding that the President’s reform agenda aligned with the objectives of his own manifesto.

 

 

 

“Following my emergence as the presidential candidate of the Accord Party during the duly conducted presidential primaries, I, in consultation with the leadership of the party, made the patriotic decision to withdraw from the presidential race and fully support the re-election of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in the 2027 Presidential Election,” he said.

 

 

 

Imumolen added that the decision “was not borne out of personal interest but from a deep conviction that the unity, stability, and continued progress of Nigeria must take precedence over personal political ambition.”

 

 

 

He further cited Tinubu’s “exceptional leadership capacity” and “unmatched political sagacity,” saying the President had consistently demonstrated political foresight and nation-building ability throughout Nigeria’s democratic history.

 

 

 

The former presidential candidate also commended Tinubu’s commitment to progressive governance, institutional reforms and policy continuity, expressing confidence that the administration’s economic policies would ultimately reposition the country’s economy for sustainable growth.

 

 

 

He said, “Despite current economic challenges, I remain convinced that his determination, policy direction, fiscal discipline, and decisive leadership will reposition Nigeria’s economy for sustainable prosperity.”

 

 

 

Imumolen also commended the President’s ability to identify and empower capable individuals, foster national unity and build consensus across political divides.

 

 

 

He described Tinubu as “a bridge between generations,” arguing that the President was well positioned to provide continuity between Nigeria’s founding democratic leaders and a new generation of transformational leadership.

 

 

 

The Accord Party chairman maintained that his aspiration had always been to serve the country rather than seek public office for its own sake.

 

 

 

“My aspiration has always been to serve Nigeria and not merely to occupy public office. Whenever the national interest is better served through unity and strategic collaboration, I will always choose Nigeria above personal political ambition,” he stated.

 

 

 

Calling on members of the Accord Party, his supporters, young people, professionals and other Nigerians to back Tinubu’s re-election bid, Imumolen described his withdrawal from the race as “a deliberate sacrifice made in the interest of Nigeria.”

 

 

 

He added that continuity in governance, policy consistency, political stability and sustained reforms remained essential to attracting investment, creating jobs, strengthening institutions and advancing national development.
