The Director of Women Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Betta Edu, has said the party intends to conduct an issue-based campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with President Bola Tinubu’s record in office forming a central part of its message to voters.
Speaking in Abuja on Monday, Edu said the APC would focus on government policies, infrastructure development, economic reforms and educational programmes as it seeks support for Tinubu’s re-election.
She maintained that the administration had recorded achievements that the party could present to Nigerians, arguing that the forthcoming election would provide an opportunity for voters to assess its performance.
According to her, the party’s campaign would place greater emphasis on policies and their effects on citizens rather than relying primarily on personalities and political rhetoric.
Edu expressed confidence that the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda would provide a basis for the APC’s engagement with voters across the country.
Edu said the party intended to explain the government’s policies and programmes in terms that Nigerians could relate to their everyday experiences.
She identified infrastructure development, economic reforms, education and initiatives intended to improve livelihoods among the areas the APC would highlight.
The former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation argued that the administration’s record would be an important consideration as Nigerians prepare for the next general election.
She acknowledged that some of the government’s reforms had been difficult but expressed optimism about their longer-term outcomes.
Edu maintained that the party would encourage citizens to assess the policies introduced under Tinubu and the results recorded during his tenure.
Her remarks reflect the APC’s stated intention to make government performance a prominent issue in the 2027 presidential contest.
However, the statement did not provide detailed performance indicators or independent assessments of the programmes cited.
The APC women mobilisation director said the party was strengthening its grassroots structures ahead of the election, with particular attention to women in rural and urban communities.
She explained that the directorate would work with women’s groups, associations, party chapters and local organisers to expand political engagement.
According to her, women play an important role in Nigeria’s electoral process through their participation in community organisations, markets, professional associations and political structures.
Edu said the party’s mobilisation activities would extend beyond rallies and public declarations to include political education, direct communication with voters and election-day sensitisation.
She added that the directorate would seek to improve coordination among women’s organisations operating at state, local government and community levels.
The objective, she said, was to ensure that voters received information about the administration’s policies and could assess their implications.
Edu also stressed the importance of maintaining contact with communities throughout the period leading to the election.
She argued that effective grassroots engagement required sustained communication rather than occasional political gatherings.
The former minister identified the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as one of the initiatives the APC intended to highlight during its campaign.
She said the programme was designed to reduce financial barriers to tertiary education and support eligible students seeking to complete their studies.
According to Edu, the student loan initiative demonstrated the administration’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities and investing in human capital development.
She argued that access to higher education could contribute to improved economic prospects for young Nigerians and support national development.
The APC official said the programme would feature alongside infrastructure projects and other government interventions in the party’s presentation of its record to voters.
She maintained that Nigerians should be informed about available government programmes and the procedures for accessing them.
Although Edu described NELFUND as a significant achievement, her statement did not include figures showing the number of beneficiaries, the value of loans disbursed or the programme’s effects on enrolment and student retention.
Those indicators would provide additional context for assessing the initiative’s performance.
Edu commended the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her involvement in programmes concerning women, families and vulnerable groups.
She said Mrs Tinubu’s activities had contributed to discussions about women’s inclusion and economic opportunities.
According to Edu, women’s participation in governance should be accompanied by measures intended to improve their livelihoods and access to opportunities.
She also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their leadership.
Other officials acknowledged in her statement included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the leadership of the House of Representatives, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, APC governors and members of the party’s political structures.
Edu thanked the wives of governors, women leaders and grassroots organisers for their involvement in party activities.
She said cooperation among these groups would remain important as the APC prepares for the 2027 election.
The women mobilisation director said one of the directorate’s immediate priorities was to consolidate existing structures and improve coordination among groups supporting the party.
She explained that this would involve working with APC leaders at national and state levels, alongside affiliated women’s organisations.
Edu said the directorate intended to strengthen communication between party officials and grassroots organisers to ensure that information about government programmes reached different communities.
She also emphasised the need for credible information during political engagement.
According to her, the party would seek to communicate its policies and achievements in ways that allowed citizens to understand the choices before them.
She maintained that women organisers would play an important role in carrying the party’s message into households, markets and community associations.
The 2027 presidential election will provide an opportunity for Nigerians to examine the government’s performance and the policy proposals presented by political parties and candidates.
While the APC is expected to highlight initiatives undertaken during Tinubu’s administration, voters will also have the opportunity to consider the effects of government decisions on economic conditions, public services and their livelihoods.
Edu said the party was confident that its record would withstand scrutiny and form the basis of its re-election campaign.
She called on APC women leaders and supporters to remain organised and continue engaging with communities ahead of the polls.
The women mobilisation director maintained that the party’s preparations would be guided by policy discussions, grassroots participation and communication of the administration’s achievements.
Her comments signal the APC women’s directorate’s intention to place the Tinubu administration’s record at the centre of its mobilisation activities as preparations for the 2027 general election gather momentum.
