2027: Enugu NDC announces Nwannaji as governorship candidate

The JohnPaul Anih leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State has announced Prof Ene-Nwannaji as it’s governorship candidate for the 2027 elections in the state.

A statement from the party said that Nwannaji defeated other contestants in the race, such as Chinyeaka Ohaa and Gilbert Nnaji.

The statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Emmanuel Ugwueze, said that the party’s State Secretary, Dr. Sebastine Okafor, released the outcome of the primary, adding that the exercise  held across the 17 local government areas of the state in line with the directive of the national secretariat of the party.

According to the party, the election was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

It gave other candidates that emerged as follows: Dr. Chika Obetta (Enugu North Senatorial Zone Candidate); Dr. Mrs Celelia Ikechukwu (Enugu East Senatorial Zone) and Barr Mrs Ugochi Ohajekwe ( Enugu West Senatorial Zone).

For House  of Representatives, Dr Stephen Ugwuoke (Nsukka/Igboeze South constituency);Barr. Chimezie Nwodo (Nkanu East/West);Barr. Kene Nnadi (Enugu North/South);
Felix Ijegalu (Udi/Ezeagu) and Barr. Onyebuchi Nwabueze (gbotiti Uzo-Uwani).
The statement added that  list of the remaining House of Representatives and House of Assembly members would be released later.

Meanwhile,  the statement added that chairman of the party in Enugu State, Dr. Johnpaul Ani described the primary election as well-organised, adding that “it was conducted in line with the guidelines of the party, in line with the Electoral Act 2026.

“The conduct across the state was peaceful and it shows a party that is interested in winning elections. You can see the calibre of candidates we elected; these are people with character.

“They are vibrant, they are young and well positioned to win the main election.

“We are using this opportunity to tell those who did not emerge to accept the outcome and work together with the party to win the general elections. All eyes now should be on the bigger election, which is coming up in January 2027,” he further stated.
