A House of Representatives aspirant under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Ugochukwu Okoji, has declared that the party’s presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, possesses the capacity to tackle Nigeria’s worsening insecurity within months of assuming office.
Okoji, who is seeking to represent the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State, made the declaration on Friday while addressing supporters and party members.
The university lecturer said the NDC was prepared to tackle the country’s numerous socio-economic and security problems, stressing that Obi understands the complexity of Nigeria’s challenges.
According to him, the former Anambra State governor has the experience, political exposure, and leadership capacity to restore security across the country within the first few months of his presidency.
“NDC is the solution to Nigeria’s multiple problems. Peter Obi understands the complexity of this country and possesses the experiences and political exposure to solve the insecurities ravaging this country within the first few months of his presidency,” he said.
Speaking on his ambition to represent the constituency at the National Assembly, Okoji said his decision to contest was driven by what he described as years of poor representation and lack of development in the area.
He pledged to sponsor pro-poor and people-oriented bills aimed at improving access to quality healthcare, infrastructure, and social welfare for Nigerians.
The aspirant also promised to focus on improving the nation’s education sector, particularly government-owned schools, leveraging his experience as a university lecturer.
“My desire to go to the National Assembly is to uplift the living conditions of my people. My people have suffered enough,” he stated.
“I want to break these perennial shackles of under-representation. My people need to breathe fresh air in our political arena. I possess what it takes mentally, intellectually, creatively, legislatively, and otherwise to turn the fortunes of our federal constituency for good.”
Okoji further assured constituents that he would work towards attracting meaningful development projects to the constituency if elected.
