2027: Jibril moves to dump Kwankwaso, may reunite with Tinubu

Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal constituency of Kano State, has hinted at his readiness to dump his political godfather and leader of Kwankwasiyya movement, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Jibril, former Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, reminded that his next political realignment shouldn’t come as a surprise, even though he was silent over his next destination.

“Nothing is impossible. I can remain in NNPP, I can go back to APC, I can join ADC or PDP or even PRP. I can go to wherever I like. When I’m ready, I will make my position known,” Jibril spiked concern.

A strong ally and former spokesperson of Kwankwaso during his 2023 presidential campaign, Jibril spoke during an interview with DCL Hausa on Thursday.

Even when the destination of the vocal Federal lawmaker is not yet in the public domain, the frequent presence of Jibril at the Aso-Rock villa in recent times is fueling rumours of a possible return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jibril recently met with President Bola Tinubu on two consecutive occasions at the villa, a strategic engagement that pundits opined may not be unconnected to political manoeuvres in Kano politics.

Following his presidential visit, Jibril finally broke his silence on the potential crossover of Kwankwaso to the ruling APC, blaming the prolonged negotiations on an internal conspiracy by APC stakeholders in Kano who did not want Kwankwaso to return.

The lawmaker who appeared on Politics Today on Channelstv Wednesday reiterated that Kwankwaso has not ruled out talks and remains open to joining the APC.

Conversely, Kwankwaso at the 9th National Executive Committee meeting of NNPP held on 30th August, in Abuja, declared that he has no plans to abandon the opposition party, contrary to speculation.

On his DCL Hausa radio interview, however, Jibril made it clear that he should be old enough to take an independent stand on what he thinks is best for him politically.

He reminded that he joined Kwankwasiyya as a wealthy person and has used his resources to uplift the red cap ideology, which in turn helped the party enable him to return to the red chamber in 2023.

“Even the NNPP itself said it is open to negotiations with other parties, so it is not necessary that I follow the direction of the party. I am old enough to take a stand on what is best for me.

“I have never requested any contract, even though I contributed to the success of NNPP in Kano State. Kwankwasiyya has stood for me, but I have also stood for it,” he added.

On what will become of his relationship after dumping the national leader of NNPP, Jibrin ascerted that he will continue to respect Kwankwaso as his leader, even if they are no longer in the same party.

“Even if I am not together with Kwankwaso, I will never insult him, just the way I have never insulted Ganduje, even when we parted ways,” he said.
