The lawmaker representing Ibadan South-West/North-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide Odidiomo, has recounted his seven years in public service, seeking the support of members of his extended family for his aspiration to represent Oyo South Senatorial District in the Senate in 2027.
Odidiomo made the appeal when members of the Akuru family of Agbeni, Ibadan, including strategic family heads and representatives of the Olajide family, paid him a solidarity visit.
The gathering provided an opportunity for the lawmaker to account for his years in public office and formally inform his extended family of his aspiration to move from the House of Representatives to the Senate.
Welcoming the family members, Odidiomo thanked them for the visit and the confidence they had expressed in him, describing his seven years in public service as eventful and filled with opportunities to impact lives and contribute to community development.
According to him, his guiding principle throughout his years in public office had been service to the people.
“In the last seven years, we have been able to impact lives positively. To the best of my ability, I have served diligently and I have not disappointed,” he said.
Odidiomo said he viewed political office as a responsibility and an opportunity to serve rather than a platform for personal ambition.
He noted that his experience in the House of Representatives had provided him with opportunities to engage directly with constituents and contribute to interventions in education, technology, youth empowerment and community development.
The lawmaker also formally informed the gathering that his political party, the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), had given him the mandate to contest for the Senate seat representing Oyo South Senatorial District in the 2027 general election.
“I am also glad to formally inform you that, to the glory of God, I have been given the mandate to proceed to a higher office.
“My political party, the Allied Peoples’ Movement, has given me the mandate to run for the Senate of Oyo South Senatorial District,” he told the gathering.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Alhaji Muda Olajide lauded Odidiomo for what the family described as his commitment to public service and his representation of the family in public life.
The family members said his years in public office had brought pride to the family, describing him as a “true son of the family” who had remained conscious of his roots despite his growing political responsibilities.
“You have been a good ambassador of this family. You are a true son of the family. You have represented us well and you have not disappointed us,” the family heads told him.
They said the visit was an expression of solidarity with Odidiomo as he seeks to transition from the House of Representatives to the Senate.
The family pledged to remain supportive of him and urged him to continue to uphold the values of service and commitment to his people.
