• APC moves to unite members ahead of elections
• Warns against factional groups
A political group within the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Egbe Ajosepo, has rejected the purported endorsement of the Minister of Power, Abdulwaheed Adebayo Adelabu, as the preferred governorship candidate of the party for the 2027 election.
The group, which represents APC’s interest in the Oke-Ogun zone, described the endorsement by some party leaders as “a betrayal of fairness, equity, and justice.”
In a communiqué signed by its National Chairman, Dauda Olaifa Alade, and National Secretary, Favour Adewoyin, Egbe Ajosepo said the move undermines the long-standing demand of the Oke-Ogun people to produce the next governor of the state.
“The endorsement of Adelabu is a grave betrayal and a direct affront to the ideals of fairness, justice, equality, and inclusivity that Oke-Ogun people have long and patiently demanded,” the communiqué stated.
It added: “We have appealed to the party leadership to ensure justice and allow an Oke-Ogun son to govern for once. Instead, a few self-serving elite have chosen to mortgage our collective destiny for personal gains and political crumbs.
“We will no longer accept the crumbs of the Deputy Governor, Party Chairman, or Speaker of the House. These positions have done little to advance our people. The time has come for Oke-Ogun to take its rightful place.”
The group also appealed to the people of Ibarapa, Oyo, and Ogbomoso zones to support its aspiration in the spirit of fairness and inclusion. However, the party’s spokesperson, Wale Sadare, said the focus should be on ensuring free, fair, and credible primaries rather than zoning.
“Every zone in Oyo has the right to aspire, but it is the primaries that will determine who gets what,” Sadare said. However, the APC in Oyo State has unveiled new strategies to strengthen unity and improve its chances of winning the 2027 governorship and other elections in the state.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its leadership summit in Ibadan, the party expressed concern over the activities of some aspirants who have been floating and nurturing separate groups within the APC, warning that such actions are creating unnecessary divisions rather than fostering unity.
The party said that collective interest must take precedence over personal ambition, urging aspirants to discontinue the formation of parallel groups but instead channel their energy toward promoting the APC’s goals.
