ADC only viable alternative to APC, says party chieftain

African Democratic Congress (ADC)

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed optimism that the party will emerge as the main alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing growing interest during its ongoing membership registration across the country.

The National Treasurer of the party, Ibrahim Ahmed Mani, made the assertion in Minna while addressing journalists shortly after inaugurating the party’s coordinating team tasked with overseeing membership registration and revalidation in Niger State.

Mani said the ADC was well positioned to wrest power from the current administration in the state led by Muhammad Umaru Bago, which he accused of poor governance.

According to him, issues such as insecurity, poverty, hardship, lack of coordinated development projects and what he described as insensitivity of the ruling party have disappointed many residents of the state.
“The electorate is disappointed with the APC for failing to meet the expectations of the people who voted for change,” Mani said.

He added that the ADC was prepared to provide credible leadership, hold government accountable and offer Nigerians a genuine alternative.

Mani expressed confidence that the party would perform strongly in the 2027 elections, urging residents of Niger State to register with the ADC and support its efforts to bring about political change.

He also criticised the new electoral law passed by the National Assembly of Nigeria, describing it as controversial and unacceptable to the party.

The ADC chieftain further alleged that recent defections of some governors to the APC were driven by desperation and were facilitated through inducement and intimidation.

Also speaking, the leader of the ADC Coordinating Team in Niger State, Umar Shuaibu, a founding member of the APC, expressed disappointment with the performance of the ruling party.

Shuaibu promised to mobilise residents for the ongoing registration and revalidation exercise, assuring that the party would conduct peaceful and transparent congresses at all levels.

He added that the ADC possesses experienced political actors and a strong grassroots structure capable of winning elections in Niger State and across the country.
