Ballot Box

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State chapter, has described as completely illogical the allegation by Young Progressive Party, (YPP) that its chieftains hijacked election materials and conducted elections in their homes.

PDP, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Borono Bassey, dismissed YPP’s allegation as an outright display of ignorance on the part of the leadership of the party or just an alibi they decided to give to their followers on why they failed?

He said: “Akwa Ibom people and, indeed, the PDP in Akwa Ibom State, find it rather insulting that the YPP could dismiss the thunderous patriotic statement that our people made through the ballot on March 18, 2023 across the state, as not being a representation of the will of the people. It is bewildering to see serially defeated party now arrogating to themselves the highly coveted aptitude of deciphering the will, mood and collective disposition of Akwa Ibom people.

“Is the YPP alleging that they do not have their loyalists and members, who could have made videos of these alleged infractions and raised the alarm on different media platforms?”

How come none of their members, or even the Secretary of YPP, who is now the new leader of YPP’s mourning orchestra did not raise a real-time alarm about the infractions that exist only in his imagination as they were allegedly happening? Whose decision was it for the party to have waited till when they saw the results of the voting pattern during the declaration of the results before setting the machinery of their lamentation in motion?”
