Stakeholders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina State have called for unity and cooperation among members to ensure a strong performance in the forthcoming general elections.
The Commissioner for Land and Survey, Dr. Faisal Kaita, made the call in Kaita Local Government Area during the affirmation of Hon. Sirajo Abdu Kwaskwaro as the consensus candidate for the State House of Assembly.
Kaita warned that lack of unity within the party could undermine its chances in the 2027 elections.
“Let me warn that we can only succeed if there is unity within the party; we must unite and work for the success of the party now and during the 2027 election,” he said.
He described the APC consensus arrangement in the state as a strategic step toward promoting internal harmony and reducing post-primary disputes.
According to him, while four aspirants contested the House of Representatives ticket and two others vied for the senatorial ticket, all 34 Katsina State House of Assembly tickets were settled through consensus agreements.
Kaita urged aspirants who lost out in the process to accept the outcome in good faith and support the party’s flagbearers, warning against defection to opposition parties.
He also encouraged party members to actively promote the APC’s manifesto across the state and engage voters ahead of the elections.
“We need to go around, meet the people, apologize to them and seek their votes,” he added.
Similarly, the Chairman of Kaita Local Government, Bello Yandaki, who also heads the Consensus Committee, described the arrangement as the best approach for ensuring unity and smooth selection of candidates.
Yandaki announced that Sirajo Abdu Kwaskwaro, the incumbent lawmaker, was unanimously endorsed as the APC candidate for the Kaita State Constituency seat.
Meanwhile, the APC in Katsina State conducted affirmation exercises for 34 House of Assembly candidates across the 34 local government areas, with the process supervised by party officials, INEC, and security agencies.
Governor Dikko Radda, who attended the exercise in Charanchi Local Government Area—his hometown—commended party members for what he described as a peaceful and orderly process.
