APC voids Shehu Sani’s suspension, state chapter kicks
National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday voided the suspension of Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central, to douse the crisis in the state’s chapter of the party.
Also, a group loyal to the senator has blamed Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna for the crisis, which festered despite the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari and APC chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.
The NWC directed the chairman of the APC in Tudun-Wada ward and others to implement the directive to quash any order suspending Sani, to complement the peace efforts of the APC national leadership.
A statement signed yesterday by the acting National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, stated: “The national secretariat has received the news of the suspension of Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central by the Tudun-Wada ward chairman and wish to clarify that the purported suspension is hereby lifted and the senator confirmed as a bona fide member and leader of our party.
“The chairman, Kaduna State chapter, has been directed to inform the relevant wards and local government chapters appropriately, and also put the necessary mechanisms in place to complement the efforts of the national leadership towards ensuring lasting peace and unity in the party.”
Following the intervention of Buhari and Oshiomhole, Senator Sani had spurned the idea of defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) like some of his colleagues in the National Assembly.
Meanwhile the state chapter has insisted that the senator remains suspended.
Kaduna APC is loyal to Governor Nasir el-Rufai, who insists that the senator must apologise before his suspension can be looked into.
Reacting to the position of the NWC, the Assistant Publicity Secretary, Salisu Wusono, said: “Kaduna APC will not sacrifice its cohesion, discipline and unity for political expediency.
