AS the days draw nearer to the re-run elections ordered by the Court of Appeal for the Benue South Senatorial District, people of the constituency have been advised to reject opposition politics and the attempt by former Senate President, David Mark to hoist himself on them as a life senator.

The Deputy Governor of Benue State, Engineer Benson Abounu gave the advice recently when the Odudaje community in Okete ward of Otukpo local government area of the state visited him at his Otukpo-Icho country home.

Abounu said that it would amount to political suicide if the Idoma people follow Mark blindly into opposition, intimating that his 16 years at the Senate has been ‘a total waste and an insult’ to the Idoma nation given the enormous power he wielded and the opportunities he had to bring smiles to the faces of his people but which he allegedly frittered away.

He maintained that the people of Benue South senatorial district have been extremely kind to Mark but lamented his ‘listless performance’, his alienation from the people and his present attempt to drag the people into opposition whereas he had in the past consistently warned against taking such an action.
“Do we now join the opposition today because David Mark wants to go for his fifth term as senator? Why does he still need four years at the Senate when in 16 years, eight of which he spent as the Senate President, he has been such a disappointment? Why does David Mark want the Idoma people to mortgage our future?” he asked.

The Deputy Governor who hails from the same local government with the former Senate President told the people that the re-run election is not about Otukpo local government but about the entire people of Benue South and the need to have quality representation and a senator that can connect with the people, their dreams and aspirations.

He called on them to embrace the wind of change, reject the sinking PDP and vote for comrade Daniel Onjeh of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the re-run election.

Earlier, leader of the delegation and Elder Statesman, Captain Ocholuje Achichi (Rtd) said they were there to identify with the Deputy Governor and thank him for his numerous contributions to the development of their community.

Achichi who recounted the various developmental initiatives of the Deputy Governor pledged the full support of the people to the Samuel Ortom’s administration and the All Progressives Congress.

In separate remarks, both the women leader, Ikwubiela Ella and the Youth leader, Ugbabe Onwuna affirmed the support of the people for the APC. They said they were tired of the lies of the PDP and the party’s inability to deliver on its promises to the people.

The event was witnessed by the Zonal chairman of the APC, Alhaji Mohammed Hassan, Otukpo local government Caretaker chairman, Ijachi Udeh and former Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Ralph Igbago and many other prominent politicians from the area.
