A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has shifted the judgment in the suit challenging Abdullahi Ganduje’s position as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to September 23.

Justice Inyang Ekwo had initially set September 18 for the ruling, but on Wednesday, the adjourned date, the case was not listed for hearing. The parties involved were earlier informed of the new date by the court registrar.

The suit, marked FH/ABJ/CS/599/2024, lists Ganduje, the APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants.

The suit was brought by the North Central APC Forum, led by Alhaji Saleh Mandung Zazzaga, who is seeking an order to prevent Ganduje from continuing to act as APC chairman.

The plaintiff also requests that the court bar INEC from recognizing any decisions made by the APC under Ganduje’s leadership since his appointment on August 3.

Zazzaga argues that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) violated the APC constitution by appointing Ganduje, who is from the North West, instead of a candidate from the North Central geopolitical zone, as per the party’s 2022 national convention zoning arrangement.

In response, the defendants have asked the court to dismiss the suit, claiming it lacks merit.

The case challenges Ganduje’s eligibility to serve as APC chairman, with the plaintiff contending that the position was zoned to the North Central geopolitical zone, while Ganduje is from the North East geopolitical zone.
