CROSIEC postpones Cross River LG election, slashes nomination fees
Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) has announced the extension of the date for the state local government council election by one week.
The chairman of the commission, Dr. Ekong Edet Boco, who made the announcement after a meeting with members of the state Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Calabar on Friday, said the council election earlier slated for October 20 will now be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
He said the decision is sequel to an appeal by IPAC to the governor for an extension of the election date and review of nomination fees for chairmanship and councillorship nomination forms.
The chairman said after its meeting on the matter, CROSIEC resolved to reduce the cost of nomination fees for chairmanship from N5 million to one million naira and that of councillorship from one million naira to N200,000 to ensure a fair and credible electoral process.
Consequently, he said the timetable and schedule of activities for the election have been slightly adjusted, with campaigns by political parties now scheduled to end on Friday, November 1.
