The acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iliya Damagum, on Saturday, in Ibadan, joined Gov. Seyi Makinde to inaugurate a newly built zonal secretariat of the party.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun state also joined his Oyo state counterpart to inaugurate the multi million property named after the former PDP South- West chairman, late Soji Adagunodo.

In his address, Makinde implored all PDP members to be more united, noting that the unity of the party was vital toward preparation for 2027 general election.

He urged the party faithful to support its candidate for the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo state, Mr Agboola Ajayi, so that the party could win.

Makinde described the late Adaguodo as a party faithful who made immense contributions to the growth of the PDP.

Speaking on his plans for 2027, Makinde said he would personally come out openly to make it known, adding that nobody will set an agenda for him.

He used the occasion to announce the appointment of the biological son of the deceased, Soji Adaguodo junior, as his special adviser on Regional Integration.

Damagum noted that the inauguration of the project, as promised by Makinde in 2023, had symbolised what PDP stood for.

“This is one of our attributes as PDP, when we promise we deliver,” he said.

He charged all PDP governors in other zones to emulate Makinde in building party secretariats in their respective zones.

He equally urged PDP leaders to embrace peace, for the party to move forward.

Damagum said Nigerians were looking up to the party as their saviour in 2027 election.

NAN also reports that former governors of Abia and Benue states, Mr Okezie Ikpeazu and Mr Samuel Ortom, witnessed the inauguration.

The building is sited at Yokelepekun area, on Old Ife Road, Ibadan.

Other attendees of the event were Ondo state governorship candidate in the forthcoming election, Mr Agboola Ajayi; former Osun state governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and Ogun State governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Mr Ladi Adebutu.
