Prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State have intensified their campaign for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah in 2027.
They said Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at transforming Nigeria’s economy and restoring public confidence in governance, had already started yielding positive results.
The leaders, including Deputy National Chairman (South) Emma Enukwu, Senator representing Enugu East Kelvin Chukwu, and State Caretaker Committee Chairman Ben Nwoye, agreed that Tinubu had performed well enough to merit a second term.
Enukwu, during a membership revalidation exercise at his Obinagu ward in Udi Local Government Area on Saturday, stressed the need for the electorate to obtain both their membership and voters’ cards to enable them to retain Tinubu in office.
He explained that the newly introduced e-method of new registration and old membership revalidation was aimed at ensuring that the APC keeps pace with 21st-century political party operations.
“Obinagu, this is the time for our people to register and get membership cards, so as to vote for President Bola Tinubu and Gov Mbah in 2027,” Enukwu said.
He assured Tinubu that Enugu State would deliver at least 2 million votes for APC in the 2027 elections, a significant improvement from the 4,000 votes recorded in 2023.
Speaking at his Amurri ward in Nkanu West Local Government Area, shortly after revalidating his membership, Senator Chukwu said he had no regrets about joining the APC from the Labour Party.
The senator added that his decision to defect to APC was informed by the people-oriented policies of President Tinubu and Governor Mbah, whom he described as one of the best-performing governors in the country.
He noted that the only way the Enugu electorate and Nigerians could reciprocate the good works of President Tinubu and Governor Mbah was to get them re-elected. “But for that to happen, our people must embrace the ongoing APC e-registration exercise so as to obtain their membership and get their voters’ card ahead of the general elections,” Chukwu said.
Nwoye, also from Amurri, said the coming together of all political heavyweights in the community would make it extremely difficult for anyone outside APC to win any election in the area in 2027. “It’s going to be an uphill task for the person,” he added.
He said Senator Chukwu’s membership revalidation had laid to rest doubts about whether the lawmaker had actually left the Labour Party for APC.
Nwoye urged existing APC members to revalidate their membership and called on those yet to register to embrace the exercise to become bonafide members.
He insisted that President Tinubu and Governor Mbah deserve a second term to consolidate on the achievements of their first tenures.
Meanwhile, Governor Mbah’s Chief of Staff, Victor Udeh, was formally admitted into the APC over the weekend at his Umuabi community in Udi Local Government Area amid celebrations.
Udeh said he would contribute to ensuring the party realizes its full potential in the area, adding that the APC government was on the right path with its reforms.
He called on the people to continue supporting the government to deliver on its promises for a better Enugu State while appreciating Governor Mbah for the giant strides he has made in the state.
