The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has said it will conduct local government elections in the state on September 26, 2026.
The commission in her official release said the election would hold for Chairmanship and Councilorship positions across the 17 LGAS and 260 Electoral wards of the State.
A statement from the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Christian C. Ngwu, disclosed that from January 23, 2026, to February 18, 2026, party primaries will be held, including the resolution of disputes arising from the primaries and the observation of the process by ENSIEC.
The commission also set November 27, 2025, to December 12, 2025, for political parties to submit information on the conduct of party primaries, specifying the time, venue, and date.
The electoral body further disclosed that from 25th to 27th March 2026, there will be screening of chairmanship candidates’ credentials at the ENSIEC Headquarters, in the following order: Enugu North Zone – 25th March, Enugu East Zone – 26th March, and Enugu West Zone – 27th March.
The statement added that the last day for submission of nomination forms ENSIEC 7 and ENSIEC 7A for Chairmanship and Councillorship Elections, respectively, by political parties in accordance with Section 29(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, is not later than 180 days before the election.
