A former House of Representatives member Isa Ashiru has been declared the winner of the Peoples’ Democratic Party’s (PDP) gubernatorial primaries in Kaduna State.
Ashiru, who was declared the winner defeated other aspirants with a wide margin of 414 votes to top the list.
His closest rival, Sani Sidi pulled 260 votes to maintain the second position, while the former Governor Ramalan Yero scored 28 votes.
Other aspirants who participated in the primaries include Sani Abbas, Haruna Saheed Kajuru, and Sen. Shehu Sani. The trio scored 15, 11, and 2 votes respectively.
Meanwhile, before the commencement of the election, Kaduna State PDP Chairman Hassan Hyat told journalists that “we want to be very thorough. We don’t want anybody to have reason for any complain. The accreditation is taking place in different venues after which the delegates are conveyed here to vote.”
In response to one of the governorship aspirants that withdrew from the race, he said: “in as much as the aspirant went into the contest willingly his withdrawal is in order and already his letter of withdrawal has been sent to PDP headquarters.”
The 788 delegates who participated in the election process were drawn from the 23 local government areas of the state. 30 invalid votes were recorded from the 760 eligible delegates’ votes.
