Forum identifies challenges to effective election
Challenges of successful voting were, yesterday, identified during a one-day Zonal Intervention/Constituency Project meeting tagged, ‘Training Of Youths & Women Of Abia Central Senatorial District on Voter Registration.’
The forum, which held in Umuahia, the state capital, with the theme, ‘Engaging Youths And Women On Effective Voter Participation For Increased Voter Enrollment And Peaceful Elections,’ was organised by the state National Orientation Agency (NOA), which has Dr. Ngozi Okechukwu as the director. Okechukwu said that the forum was organised in collaboration with Theodore Orji, who is the serving Senator for Abia Central Senatorial District.
The challenges identified by participants comprising women, traditional rulers, community leaders and stakeholders include: voter apathy, insecurity, non-release of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), seeming acts of disenfranchisement in one way or the other, ineffective enforcement of electoral laws, politicians’ failure to fulfill their past manifestos/promises, inducement of voters, votes buying, among others.
