Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the immediate past Governor of Ekiti State and former Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, has congratulated Ghana’s President-elect, John Mahama, on his victory in the country’s recent general elections.

In a statement released on Sunday, Fayemi, who signed the message through Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, Head of Fayemi Media, praised Ghana’s electoral process as a model of democracy for Africa.

Fayemi also commended Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the incumbent New Patriotic Party, for his gracious concession speech.

He described Bawumia’s acceptance of the election results as an exemplary demonstration of political maturity and respect for democratic values.

As a friend of both Mahama and Bawumia, Fayemi congratulated Mahama on his victory, acknowledging that it reflected the trust and confidence the people of Ghana have in his leadership.

He also stressed the importance of Bawumia’s concession, noting that it reinforced democratic values and would serve as a model for political leaders across the continent.

“Dr. Bawumia’s acceptance of the electoral outcome in the spirit of peace and national unity exemplifies the very best of African political leadership,” Fayemi said.

Fayemi urged African politicians to learn from Ghana’s example, stressing the need to respect the will of the people and allow democratic institutions to function independently.

“As Nigeria and other African nations continue to strengthen their democratic foundations, the Ghanaian experience provides a blueprint for conducting elections that are credible, peaceful, and reflective of the people’s choice,” he said, stressing that political leaders must align their desire to serve with the mandate freely given by the electorate.

He further lauded Ghana for setting high standards by demonstrating that democracy can thrive in Africa when institutions are allowed to function independently and political leaders put the collective good before individual aspirations.

Fayemi called on African politicians to emulate the conduct of Mahama and Bawumia, noting that their actions have strengthened Ghana’s democratic culture and positioned the country as a beacon of hope for the continent.

As Nigeria and other African nations continue to strengthen their democratic foundations, Fayemi stated that Ghana’s experience offers a valuable blueprint for conducting credible, peaceful elections that reflect the people’s choice.
