Gov Yusuf’s defection: ‘Learn the lesson and move on’, says Jigawa politician

An Abuja-based politician and businessman, Umar Farin-Gado Kazaure, has urged Nigerian political actors to draw lessons from recent developments in Kano politics following the defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, Farin-Gado said the exit of Governor Yusuf, a political protégé of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, mirrored earlier political reversals experienced by other prominent figures, including a former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

He argued that such moments should prompt reflection rather than prolonged grievance, especially with the 2027 general election approaching.

“Everyone concerned should learn from the Kano defection debacle.

It has happened before to someone like Distinguished Senator Bukola Saraki and people were laughing at him. Now that it has happened to His Excellency, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, all he needs to do is to move on and put the past behind him,” Farin-Gado said.

He added that political leaders should focus on regrouping and planning ahead rather than dwelling on past setbacks.

“This is because the next election cycle is fast approaching. There is no need to lament over a spilt milk, he should rather go back to the drawing board.

The takeaway is the lesson the situation offers all concerned,” he said.

Farin-Gado also appealed to residents of Kano State to remain calm and to recognise Kwankwaso’s contributions to the development of the state over the years.

He further called on northern political leaders to work towards reconciling Kwankwaso and a former governor of the state, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, describing reconciliation as being in the wider interest of Kano State and the North.
