A federal lawmaker from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Abdulmumin Jibrin, has openly declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying he believes nothing will stop the president from winning re-election in 2027.
Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji constituency in Kano State, made the remarks during a televised interview, emphasising his personal loyalty to the president despite belonging to an opposition party.
“I am a Tinubu person and I like him,” Jibrin said. “I believe, I cannot see anything that will stop him from winning election in 2027. I did not say I am God, but I believe.”
The lawmaker recounted his early support for Tinubu’s ambition, recalling how in January 2022 he mobilised Islamic clerics and prayer groups to back the former Lagos governor’s presidential bid before he secured the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jibrin said his relationship with Tinubu was founded on mutual respect rather than partisan lines. “It is quite important that you have a boss that likes you, and you like him,” he explained. “Irrespective of party affiliation, it has been a great relief working with him.”
He also revealed that he had met with the president twice in the past week, describing the encounters as evidence of continued engagement.
Jibrin also revealed that the NNPP is open to negotiation ahead of the 2027 election, without confirming with whom.
Asked about what he feels with rumours about the party leader, Kwankwaso, the rep member said, ‘Nothing is concrete for now”.
