The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has explained the reason behind its demand for a seven-day extension of time to submit the list of its chairmanship and councillorship candidates in the upcoming September 21 local council election to the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) was to prepare given the Supreme Court’s judgment pronouncing Edozie Njoku as the authentic National Chairman.

This was disclosed, at the weekend, by Njoku after visiting the Chairman of the ISIEC, Charles Ejiogu, in his office in Owerri.

Njoku, represented by the National Secretary of the party, Muhiyideen Imam, explained that the internal re-engineering of the party in all the states needed to be carried out, following the entrance of the new chairman to face any challenge and compete favourably and win elections, including the September 21 Imo council election.

He said: “We are here to visit ISIEC Chairman and appreciate the governor for preparing to conduct local council elections. That is the way to go.

“Secondly, we are here to also notify the commission of our determination to participate fully in the election that is coming soon.”

So, we have equally, because of the time frame, written an application to the commission for an extension of time, considering the circumstances that surround APGA.”
