Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has declared that the killing of his Principal Special Assistant on Knowledge Economy and Investment, Dr. Tavershima Adyorough, will not distract him from fulfilling his campaign promises.

He made the declaration yesterday when he visited the wife of the slain aide, Mrumun, at a hospital in Makurdi, the state capital.

Some members of the state executive council received the governor at the hospital. The Guardian learnt that Adyorough’s wife, who was also shot by the gunmen, was in a stable condition.

Ortom described the late Adyorough as a renowned economist who contributed his quota to the state’s development.

He said he was touched by the gruesome killing and vowed to apprehend and prosecute the culprits, no matter how long it would take.

The governor promised to implement the policies and programmes of his administration, including applying the stick approach under the amnesty programme.

According to him, criminals who refused to surrender their illegally acquired arms and ammunition during the carrot approach would not have a place to hide when the stick is applied.

He commended security agencies for their efforts at reducing crime to the barest minimum and urged them to urgently fish out those behind his aide’s killing.

The late Adyorough was killed in the early hours of last Sunday at his residence at the Benue Investment and Property Company Quarters at Nyiman, Makurdi.
