Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has announced the disbursement of N1 billion to offset part of the outstanding salary arrears of local council workers.

Ahmed disclosed this yesterday while addressing stakeholders at a monthly All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum at the Banquet Hall, opposite Government House, Ilorin.

He said the money was realised from the Paris Club Loan refunds which accrued to the state. He added that additional funds would be released as soon as other outstanding commitments, which include pensions and gratuities, are settled as encapsulated in the 2017 budget. According to him, the state-owned tertiary institutions are also expected to benefit from the refund.

The governor said he was pained that the “economic challenges in the country have taken their toll on every segment of the country, particularly the local council workers in the state.”

The governor explained that the N5.1billion received by the state government was lower than the amount it was expecting from the Federal Government. He promised to improve the welfare of the people when another tranche of the loan refund is received in September.

The state Chairman of the APC, Ishola Balogun-Fulani commended members of the party for mobilising the electorate for the Continuous Voters Registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
