The Nigerian Army has challenged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to provide evidence its leadership was complicit in the just concluded local council elections in Kaduna State. The PDP had alleged that the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Division 1, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Mohammed, tinkered with the elections.

The Army urged the public to disregard the publication in its entirety and regard the perpetrators as mischief-makers and enemies of progress, who are bent on pitching the military against the peaceful people of Kaduna State.

While demanding an immediate apology over what it described as a desperate blackmail of its personnel and the entire force, the Nigerian Army called on the party to issue a retraction of the “unfounded allegation on or before Saturday, May 26, 2018, else legal action would be taken against it.”

A statement by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Muhammad Dole, said the military hierarchy has always emphasised the apolitical stance of its troops, and its personnel are conscious of their roles in the conduct of any election, as they strictly abide by the Nigerian Army Code of Conduct on the exercise.
