The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed as fake and unauthorised the various primary election results making the rounds on social media, insisting that only the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) has the authority to announce the outcome of its nationwide primaries.
The warning comes amid growing speculation over the winners and losers of the party’s May 28 and 29 primaries, with different lists purportedly showing successful candidates for various elective positions already circulating online.
In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the party urged members, supporters, and the public to ignore all unofficial results, stressing that the authentic outcome of the exercise remains under the custody of the NEC.
“The results of the primaries are with the National Executive Council of our great party, which is solely responsible for announcing them,” the statement said.
To address issues arising from the primaries and finalise decisions on candidates, the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, has ordered the convening of a crucial NEC meeting in Abuja.
Under the arrangement, NEC members are expected in the nation’s capital tomorrow, June 2, for a pre-NEC session, while the main meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3.
The gathering is expected to review reports from across the country and ratify candidates who will eventually fly the party’s flag in future elections.
The party assured stakeholders that the official results would be released through the appropriate channels and in line with electoral regulations before the submission of candidates’ names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The development signals the party’s determination to maintain control of its internal processes and prevent misinformation from shaping public perception ahead of the formal announcement of its candidates.
