The first elected female Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu, has said Nigeria could experience a positive turnaround if President Bola Tinubu and other Nigerians in positions of authority submit themselves completely to God.
Ojikutu urged Tinubu to use his ongoing spiritual journey to Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to acknowledge God’s supremacy, surrender all authority to Him and recognise that his emergence as President was not by his personal power.
In a statement on Friday, the former deputy governor said she was initially sceptical when she learnt that Tinubu had travelled to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, the lesser Hajj, but later received what she described as a divine message concerning the President and Nigeria’s future.
“I am so happy that Mr President went on this. When I first heard he went to Umrah, I scoffed,” she said.
She added that the message she subsequently received indicated that Nigeria could experience positive changes if the President and other leaders acknowledged God’s authority over their lives and positions.
“Now I got this message that things will turn round for better in Nigeria if he does this and all of us. The message came that this is a country where everybody arrogates power to themselves and not to the Almighty God.
“Now that he has gone for Umrah, he should do complete submission to his Creator and arrogate all powers to the Almighty, acknowledging that he is a nobody,” Ojikutu said.
According to her, Tinubu needed to acknowledge God as the source of his political achievements and give Him the glory rather than assuming that his accomplishments were products of personal strength.
She maintained that the President’s tendency to arrogate power to himself was responsible for some of the mistakes he was making, adding that the same attitude was common among Nigerians occupying positions of authority.
“The Almighty has exalted him and all powers belong to the Almighty. God is telling him to give Him all the glory for everything He has done for him.
“It is not by his power that he has gotten to the position that he has gotten to, and he is making mistakes because he is arrogating the power to himself,” she said.
Ojikutu called on Nigerians in leadership positions to acknowledge God’s supremacy and recognise Him as the ultimate director of human affairs.
She warned that nations that failed to recognise the authority of God risked failure, citing the United States and the United Kingdom as examples of countries whose public values, in her view, reflected acknowledgement of divine authority.
“Any nation that does not believe in the Almighty’s authority is bound to fail. You can see that America has been going strong. Like they said, ‘In God We Trust.’ Everything they do,” she said.
The former deputy governor insisted that her message was specifically directed at Tinubu while he was in Makkah, stressing that it was a divine message rather than her personal opinion.
“This is the message I want to pass to President Tinubu while he is still in Mecca. It is not my message but that of God to him.
“God is showing Himself to Tinubu that He is God, the only One who can make and unmake, not Tinubu. So he should retrace his steps and ways,” she added.
Tinubu departed Abuja on Thursday, October 29, 2026, for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform Umrah and pray for Nigeria.
