NNPP guber candidate in Kaduna set to dump party
Former Kaduna State governorship candidate for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Sheikh Ahmed Umar, has indicated he may soon leave the NNPP to join either the All Progressives Congress (APC) or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 elections.
He called on the government to consider opening borders for food imports and adjusting fuel prices to alleviate the burden on citizens.
Sheikh, disclosed this in Abuja, during a press interaction with journalists, and urged Nigerians, especially the youth, to remain patient and steadfast as the country navigates through economic challenges.
He said: “I contested under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), but I’m considering switching to a new platform. I haven’t made a final decision yet.
“I realize that in Nigeria, the masses don’t support new parties. It’s either the APC or PDP. There’s no viable third force here. So, I will join one of the major parties, either PDP or APC, and I intend to make an impact.”
Umar highlighted the strong faith of Nigerians, saying, “The Muslims in Nigeria are among the most devoted in prayer, as are the Christians. We need to return to prayer as a foundation.”
He also reflected on the challenges facing Nigeria and the wider African region, stating, “Destruction can happen in an instant, but rebuilding is much harder and can take over a decade.
“Our past leaders, unfortunately, contributed to the problems we face today. Our current leadership is working to restore Nigeria’s stability, but rebuilding takes time.”
Umar encouraged the youth to turn to prayer and hard work, emphasizing that when all options seem exhausted, divine intervention remains a source of hope.
He also voiced his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, expressing confidence that Tinubu’s efforts would eventually help ease the burden on Nigerians, particularly civil servants affected by rising prices due to fuel costs.
Highlighting the importance of security, especially in northern Nigeria, Umar stressed that a safe environment is essential for growth and prosperity.
He called for unity and resilience among Nigerians, noting, “We’ve been through various administrations, each with its challenges. A united, prayerful, and resilient population will bring about change, with Allah’s guidance.”
Umar underscored the importance of justice and impartial leadership for Nigeria’s progress and hinted at a potential political shift, though he has not made a final decision.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s religious heritage, he expressed hope that sincere prayers could bring relief sooner than expected.
