North’s pact with Tinubu second term non-negotiable, Kwankwaso declares

APC chieftain Iliyasu Musa Kwankwaso

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso, has declared that Northern Nigeria’s political pact with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections is sacrosanct and non-negotiable, insisting that the region will reciprocate the administration’s development interventions with massive votes.

Kwankwaso, who spoke on the sidelines of the inauguration of Arewa4Asiwaju in Abuja, said Tinubu had demonstrated commitment to addressing the North’s infrastructure deficit, arguing that the region had compelling reasons to sustain its political support for the President.

He cited the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline, railway projects, the proposed Abuja-Kano Super Highway and Kano’s Urban Wujuwuju Road, among other interventions, as evidence of the administration’s attention to infrastructure development in the North.

According to him, the projects have the potential to improve regional connectivity, stimulate commercial activities and unlock economic opportunities, adding that the administration’s infrastructure agenda would be an important consideration in the North’s political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Tinubu has done his best for the North, and we shall replicate the gesture through massive voting in 2027. The covenant of the North with our beloved President is sacrosanct and, in effect, non-negotiable,” Kwankwaso declared.

He maintained that Northern Nigeria had a political tradition of honouring commitments, expressing confidence that the region would remain faithful to its understanding with the President as the next general election approaches.

“The North is known for fulfilling its covenant, and we shall live up to expectations again. The President should be rest assured that 2027 is his year, and the North will roar again,” he said.

The APC chieftain spoke as political stakeholders gathered in Abuja for the inauguration of Arewa4Asiwaju, a support group established to mobilise political support for Tinubu’s re-election bid across Northern Nigeria.

The inauguration attracted prominent Northern political figures, including the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Masari, former governors, ministers, presidential advisers and other influential stakeholders.

The gathering underscored efforts by Tinubu’s supporters to consolidate their political structures in the North and mobilise voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso said the initiative provided an opportunity to bring Northern stakeholders together, strengthen grassroots mobilisation and build a coordinated political platform to promote the President’s development agenda.

He maintained that the region’s commitment to Tinubu would ultimately be demonstrated through electoral participation, expressing confidence that supporters would translate their declarations of allegiance into votes at the ballot box.

The renewed mobilisation comes as political parties and support groups begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with economic conditions, infrastructure development, security and the impact of government policies likely to feature prominently in political debates.

For the North, a region with considerable electoral weight, the ability of political leaders to translate endorsements into voter support will depend not only on elite agreements but also on how ordinary citizens assess the administration’s performance and its impact on their livelihoods.
