As political campaigns begins to gather momentum ahead 2027 elections in Ogun, opposition parties including the African Democratic Congress and Because Of Our Tomorrow party have withdrew lawsuits against the Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola.

The withdrawal indicates significant development for Adeola popularly called Yayi as efforts to challenge his gubernatorial candidacy suffered setback after four separate lawsuits contesting his emergence were voluntarily withdrawn case.
Those who withdrew their cases include : government officials and members of ADC and BOOT party, Labour Party(LP) Young Progressive Party(YPP) African Democratic Party(ADP) as the recent withdrawal was recorded on September 7, 2026 at the Federal High Court.

Adeola’s Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro described the development as “welcome and unprecedented” as political campaigns commenced before the 2027 election.
One of the cases, Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/844/26, was instituted by Arc. Akerele Abiodun John, Ogun State Chairman of Booth Party; Mr. Adeyemi Solomon Oluwaseyifunmi, Ogun State Chairman of YPP; Mr. Ola Olamide Emmanuel of ADP; Mr. Ayinde Oluwayemisi Abiola, an ADP member; and Mr. Fesomade Gbadebo of the LP.

The suit was filed against Senator Adeola, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the APC.
Also discontinued were Suit Nos. FHC/ABJ/CS/989/2026 and FHC/ABJ/CS/884/26, instituted by some of the aforementioned party officials and members, alongside others, including Dr. Olufemi Soluade, identified in the statement as Ogun State Chairman of the African Democratic Party (ADC), Mr. Oluwabukola Soyoye Temitope of the Labour Party and one Ogunremi Abiodu Oluwaseun.

The suits also joined Senator Adeola, INEC, the APC, Guardian Newspapers Limited and the Inspector-General of Police as defendants.
Another major case, Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/87/26, was filed by Professor Awolola Awoniyi pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act 2011 against Senator Adeola, INEC, APC, Guardian Newspapers Limited and the Inspector-General of Police.

According to Odunaro, Professor Awoniyi discontinued his case on August 24, 2026, while the other suits were withdrawn on September 7 in open court, with the defendants and their lawyers duly notified through Notices of Discontinuance.
Although no specific reasons were given by the litigants for withdrawing the cases, the statement suggested that the withdrawals followed a reassessment of the issues surrounding Senator Adeola’s candidacy.

The development is coming as the APC candidate intensifies his mobilisation ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with his campaign expected to move into a more extensive phase across the state.
Reacting to the development, Senator Adeola welcomed the withdrawal of the suits, saying his attention remained firmly focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Ogun State and mobilising support for the APC across the state.

The senator, according to the statement, said he was “more than ever focused” on his responsibilities and preparations for the forthcoming general election.
The voluntary withdrawal of the suits effectively removes a significant layer of litigation surrounding the APC candidate’s governorship bid as the political contest gradually shifts from the courts to the campaign field.
